We all know Town Hall 15 is coming to Clash of Clans soon, but when do we think it will drop and what do we expect it to have? I’ve studied the history of Clash of Clans updates and poured over hours and hours of interviews that Community Manager Darian has given publicly, in my own video’s and in other videos about the update.

When?

Pretty soon… want me to be more specific? Ok. When The Clash World Championships was brought forward from the traditional date of December to September it was clear to many that this was to accommodate an update by the end of 2022. Darian has spoken of a rough timeline of 18 months for each townhall level and while this isn’t an exact number the 2 factors pointed towards either a Fall or December update. There are traditionally 4 bigger updates each year, Spring, Summer, Fall (Halloween) and December.

It would be strange for an update to land in November or January. Th13 Arrived in December but with the arrival of Hammer Jam straight after the Worlds it would be a pretty safe bet to assume that an update might drop around the week that Hammer Jam runs out. Hammer Jam will run to October 10^th so this week or the week after would be where I would put my money if I were a betting man. Also, updates are normally on a Monday or a Tuesday, this gives the team in Helsinki time to fix any bugs that are found on release. Updates are normally trailed by a “Developer Update” video and then a series of blog “sneak peeks” where we are drip fed information about the key features of the new Town Hall Level.

What Can we expect?

Color

From Th9 each Th has had a new color, we have had black, white and all of the primary colors. With th14 we started to delve into secondary colors with a green vibe, so it may be a safe bet to expect orange or purple  as colors for TH15. Darian has also previously stated that they want the color to pop from the background so there are other options available such as neon yellow or hot pink! With TH14 they introduced a “theme” (jungle) so whatever the color there may also be a theme to accompany it. Honestly I have no clue where they could go with a theme but Darian has ruled out the Avengers as a theme! Personally I would love to see an orange town hall, but that might be to do with my other obsession in life!

Signature defense

In short yes, we can expect a new defense, from th9 each town hall level has been accompanied by a new signature defense, and from th12 we were introduced to a town hall defense. It’s fair to assume we will get one of these or possibly both. The Clash of Clans team is not in the habit of adding new things unless it adds value or a new mechanic. So any new defense will have a totally new behavior from previous defenses.

The townhall defense does tend to be an already established defense stuck on top of the townhall. We’ve heard lots of talk about another eagle on the townhall but something VERY similar to that has just been used on the Capital Hall. I wouldn’t be surprised if we stuck with the inferno beams but a mix of spells were released when the townhall was destroyed. Could you imagine how devastating a combo of poison spell and skeleton spell could be.

This is a good point to talk about space in the village map. Now, we have a bit of a problem with space in the village, there are almost 100 buildings and this leads to issues with calculating % destruction. While this isn’t a major problem (a building could be worth less than a % when destroyed) it does make it tricky if the math doesn’t work out exactly evenly. It would be really difficult in the world of esports if each building was worth a different %. There are some solutions to this. Darian has talked about merging defenses to make super defenses previously, although this was very much at a blue sky thinking stage and there is nothing to suggest this is something they are introducing for Town Hall 15.

Trash buildings (or non- defensive buildings) are also taking up space where defenses could be added, they have just freed up 4 buildings by announcing that they will reduce the number of Barracks and Dark Barracks down to 1 of each. Battle Builders was a nice concept that they explored at th14 and it went down well (if a little weak at first). Adding defenses to Barracks, Army Camps, Spell Factories or Resource Buildings could be a fun extension of this concept and something I think will be brought in during the next update. However, as I mentioned before, Supercell like to add new mechanics when they introduce things; the battle builders did this, they fought back and helped to rebuild the surrounding buildings. So expect something more inventive than the villager manning an xbow on top of a Dark Barracks.

From a Base Building point of view you would initially expect more defenses to make the game harder, and while it’s true that there will be more Damage Per Second (DPS) thrown at the attacking troops there is a danger that it makes the game easier. Bradders, Pro Base Builder for Clash Champs, took some time to explain how trash (non defensive) buildings are used in defense.

“Trash is used to control or disrupt the pathing of defense targeting troops, this forces them towards traps, splash damage or away from a key area the builder is trying to defend. If there are only defensive buildings on a base then this is impossible to do and it encourages Spam or mass troop attacks.”
New Hero – Since Townhall 7 every odd Townhall level has added a new hero to the game. So I thought a new hero at th15 was a certainty until I had Darian on my stream who said, “We’re not sure 5 hero’s would be an enjoyable experience for the player and while exploring this concept we started to ask do we need a new hero? Is there a niche that needs to be filled”

Now Darian is the master of smoke and mirrors and as such he could be throwing us off OR they could have recognized that hero’s are already SOOOO strong adding another one, and probably a new pet could cause major problems. More likely is a new pet which would change up the meta and add a new element to the game where you have to pick which pet is removed from the roster.

Troop Levels – Witches are a hot favorite for a new level, they haven’t had an update since Town Hall 12, which is crazy considering Super witches are still viable at Town Hall 14! Expect a smattering of upgrades to the majority of troops and defenses as well.

A new troop? Maybe, A new super troop? Almost definitely! I’d love to see a Super Hog or some variations to existing super troops. When Super Troops were first introduced this was mentioned as a possibility but we have never seen it brought into the game. A new siege machine is a possibility but this is probably the least likely to happen. We just got a new Siege Machine, The Flame Flinger in December 2021 and to introduce another so soon would be surprising.

What about Clan Capital and Builders Base? Builders Base Rework has been scheduled for 2023 and the Clash of Clans team has already said that they don’t plan to introduce any new content for Builder Base until then. With Clan Capital it wouldn’t  surprise me if they introduced a new District to us in the next update but it also would be understandable if they concentrated solely on Townhall 15 in the next update. And then there’s this thing that they trailed on the pre-worlds stream.

I have NO IDEA what this is or where it fits in. The size and feel of it gives me a Clan Capital vibe, but the fact that it has different upgrade branches and that it says  “not counted in VILLAGE strength” throws some interesting questions up. Honestly I could write another blog just on this picture. It has a passive impact on the home village, there are no storages in Clan Capital, but it stays in Clan Capital, 6×6 is a HUGE amount of space.

Does this give us an indication of a theme for Townhall 15?

For me speculation is one of the most enjoyable parts of the update cycle, what do you think? Is it a couple of weeks away? Will there be a new hero? Will I get my way and have an Orange Townhall 15? Hey OJ! Can you introduce yourself to the players who don’t know you?

Howdy! I’m OJ. I’m 32 years old and was born in Canada.

I’ve been playing games since I was 3 years old and have always just understood the mechanics of games immediately. Before YouTube, I’ve worked in all sorts of places from retail management to being a bartender.

How long have you been creating content?

I picked up Clash Royale during the beta launch in January of 2016. I was skiing every day with my friend Ryan. He told me I’m pretty decent at the game and I should share my knowledge with the world- I laughed, thinking no one would care to watch what I have to offer.

But he was adamant and helped me edit my first video. That video ended up hitting 10,000 views. My 3rd video, “How to pull” was featured in-game, and received 1 million views, and I gain 10,000 subscribers. That was the moment I knew YouTube was going to become my career.

What do you particularly enjoy in Clash Royale?

I love griefing other players with emotes. It makes me feel alive.

What is your current favorite card to play and why?

I love ridiculous cards that force you to play the game in a different way. Temporary gimmick cards with funny mechanics like Barbarian Launcher, or the Giant Skeleton Tombstone from April Fools 2016, where it spawned an absurd amount of Giant Skeletons just exploding everywhere. Even ridiculous modes like the April Fools invisible Skeleton. The sight of a singular skeleton 3 crowning the tower is the funniest thing in the world to see. At the end of the day, we’re playing Clash Royale to have fun.

What’s your best memory in Clash Royale?

I had pulled an all-nighter and was woken up by a friend who called me to tell me I was featured in-game. That was a life-changing moment for me.

Having the privilege of attending the King’s Cup and seeing the possibility of tournaments and mobile gaming firsthand was the experience of a lifetime and I often look back at these moments.

One time, I was invited to Korea and at the time Nyte and Chief Pat had a million subs. A very distinct memory is witnessing their work ethic firsthand. That was the moment I knew OK, if I want to reach for the stars, I need to put in the work.

Any tips or advice for players?

The season pass is great value. I’m not saying this because this is featured in-game, haha. It’s just in 2016, there was no way to progress like you can now and the pass is just incredible value. If you don’t want to spend money, playing the challenges consistently can offer great rewards too.

What’s the best video you made?

I love the trainer OJ series, especially the first episode. Me and my team were brainstorming new ideas, it just so happened I needed to fly to Tribe HQ in Austin, we came up with the idea of starting a new account with a maxed deck.

I ran the numbers on how many boxes needed to be opened, how many gems I needed to buy and we literally started to film everything at 1 am. My flight was at 4 am and we had the intro recorded. By the time I arrived, NO ONE knew what I was doing and they had NO idea I was scamming them into opening these boxes.

How many videos or streams do you do a week, and what days?

I release a video every day when I can and stream whenever I have time.

Can you share any new ideas for Clash Royale videos you are working on?

You can always expect some season update videos where I give you a quick rundown of what is to come. I’m always thinking and brainstorming about new video ideas with my team and inspiration can come from anywhere.

Can you introduce yourself to the players?

Hey everyone! I’m Diddy, 18, and I’m from New York, USA.

I’m currently attending college while making daily YouTube content.

Way back when I was 10, I started playing Clash of Clans with my dad.

This sparked a major interest in Supercell games which led me to find MOLT, who was posting Clash Royale.

I downloaded Royale when I was 12, right when it was globally launched, and have been hooked ever since.

How long have you been creating content and when do you stream?

I have been creating content since I was 12, so over 6 years!

I’ve always had a passion for gaming, so I made sure to do everything I could to take my channel to the next level.

I post content daily on my YouTube channel, generally around 11am EST and I Livestream Sundays at 10am EST!

What do you particularly enjoy in Clash Royale?

I love how every single battle is a new experience, and being able to share my love for the game with my audience is super important to me.

The intense overtime matches never cease to amaze me!

What is your current favorite card to play and why?

My favorite card is the Goblin Barrel.

Not only is it the star of the show in log bait [which is my favorite deck archetype], but I believe it’s a super unique and fun card.

By being able to be placed anywhere in the Arena, I think it holds so much outplay potential.

What’s your best Clash Royale memory so far?

One of my best memories in Clash Royale happened in the recent Rage Global Tournament, where I achieved my most wins ever… 21!

This was not only a huge accomplishment for me, but reaching it live in front of my fans was next-level hype!

Any tips or advice for players?

The most important advice I would give to anyone playing Clash Royale is to play what is most enjoyable to you.

Sometimes instead of facing the stresses of mid-ladder, I play in tournaments to test new best decks.

There was a point where I cared too much about ladder and because of this, I was unreasonably frustrated with the game.

Clashing should always be fun!

Can you introduce yourself to the players?

My name is Brandon, 38 Years old from Idaho, with a beautifully stunning wife and 5 wonderful kids. I started Playing CR immediately on Launch after my son introduced me to Clash of Clans.

How long have you been creating content/streaming and how many times per week?

I started my Streaming, Creating content with CR in 2016. I don’t think I could learn how to play any other game! And I am not that smart!

I usually upload 3-7 days a week, depending on the year. I mix it up on the day. Got to keep people wanting more!

What do you particularly enjoy in Clash Royale?

The PVP aspect of Clash Royale is amazing, but the fact that I can pick it up play it for 3 minutes, and be done is the 100% most important thing for me and my busy life.

What is your current favorite card to play and why?

Elixir Golem is my all-time Favorite card; that sneaky little bugger will sneak up on ya if you don’t watch out. PLUS, how cute is that lil guy?

If only I could find a REAL LIFE ELIXIR GOLEM!!!

Any tips or advice for players?

Don’t Spam Cards!

What’s your favorite video you’ve made to date?

I love making things from Clash Royale, “Making a Hog Hammer” was one of my favorite items to make.

What many might consider the OG clans of Clash of Clans Esports, Dark Looters and Tribe Gaming are disbanding. As for the Tribe Gaming Esports team? Read on.

Itzu, the leader of the Tribe Gaming team has announced in a video that they will be disbanding these clans.

The OGs of Competitive Clash

Earlier this year the first World Championships were first announced. Dark Looters topped the in-game Clan War League leaderboards. Earning themselves a spot in Katowice, Poland to try to qualify for the World Championships. They subsequently entered the March Poland Qualifiers with a new name in Tribe Gaming. In doing so they became the first ever Clash of Clans Esports team. Tribe Gaming subsequently won their qualifiers and secured the first spot at the World Championships where they inevitably came 4^th.

Not only did they qualify first for the World Championships but Dark Looters won what might be the first Clash of Clans Esports event. Dark Looters were victorious in the Champions War League final for its inaugural season back in February 2017 where both Itzu and eVe Cech competed.

Lead up to Announcement

Leading up to this announcement, in the past week both Vale and eVe Maxi had announced their retirement from competitive Clash of Clans so that they could focus on their career and their studies. I had also confirmed that BuMm himself was leaving Tribe Gaming to seek other options.

Therefore, only eVe Cech and Itzu remained in the squad with a number of other members of the Tribe Gaming family already competing in other teams. Sebix, for example, who although part of their original March qualifying team now plays mainly for OneHive in Clash Esports Events.

Why Retire?

Itzu cited the key reasons for disbanding Tribe Gaming and players retiring. Primarily, people felt the time commitment at the professional level to be quite demanding. Particularly when it came to the difficulty and grind involved in base building. Studies and careers of course cannot be ignored, as was the case for Vale and eVe Maxi.

Meta Doesn’t Help

Countless pro players and individuals in the competitive scene believe that offence has been too strong of late. Considering this it makes base building that much more important, that much more difficult and that much more time consuming.

There were many tournaments and playoffs taking place in just the last month. It seemed almost every second day we saw another perfect or tied perfect war. Not to mention the bases in these wars were being built by the best in the world.

The Future for Tribe Gaming in Clash of Clans

Tribe Gaming disbanding doesn’t mean the end of Tribe in Clash of Clans, far from it. It is still quite likely that they will be running a competitive team in 2020. I reached out to Tribe Gaming but as of the writing of this article, am yet to hear back.

Itzu spoke with me and said he plans on remaining a pro player. I asked if Tribe Gaming was still an option or if he would be looking to form a team elsewhere he replied that Tribe Gaming is not only an option but that he ‘actually has no reason to leave’ assuming a strong 5 person team can be put together.

I did not ask about eVe Cech but I have no reason to believe that he would be wishing to leave the Tribe Gaming Esports team.

Will Tribe Be 2020 Ready

Above all, if Tribe Gaming wants to be a Clash of Clans Esports team competitively in 2020 they need to move and move fast. The same for Itzu for that matter. With less than two weeks left this year and with the first major tournament, the Town Hall 13 Cup scheduled for the end of January there isn’t much time to finalise a team and prepare for it.

Not to mention, the month after in February the 2020 Clash of Clans World Championship will begin its qualifying process.

Unless you’re ‘in the know’, the make-up of a number of professional teams for Town Hall 13 Cup in January and subsequent 2020 World Championship could be very interesting and possibly quite surprising.

Despite disbanding, I hope both Tribe Gaming and Itzu, be it together or separate, find strong cohesive teams and can bring such skill and excitement to the 2020 season as they did for 2019.
